Frank X. Moya has contributed his expertise to the design of a broad range of civic, institutional, commercial, and mixed-use facilities. Mr. Moya’s commitment to urban design projects represents his belief in the economic impact of redevelopment projects for cities. The strategic concept developed by Mr. Moya during his years of private practice, provided for an integrated team approach to the development of balanced, long-term economic models for urban redevelopment projects. This approach has been recognized by federal, state, civic and business organizations with numerous awards for excellence in design.
In 2020 Frank X. Moya restarted his private practice. Prior to that, in 2008 he joined Peter A. Matthews to open Matthews Moya Architects, a New York City based practice where he continues to be involved in selected projects. He started professionally at Henry Horowitz and Associates in Princeton, NJ. From there, he joined The Hillier Group where he was the Associate in Charge of Design of the Healthcare/R&D Studio. From Hillier he started his original, private NJ based practice, the award-wining Moya Architects. Thereafter, he was Director of Design at HACBM Architects, Engineers and Planners, and Director of Architecture and Planning at Leewood Real Estate Group NJ. Mr. Moya’s interest in urban issues and community service has taken him to serve appointments to the board of the New Jersey Historic Trust, the state’s autonomous historical restoration fund overseen by the NJ Department of State; the advisory board for the Trenton Office for Policy Studies, a policy think-tank for the City of Trenton under the auspices of Edison State College responsible for achieving the nation’s first Weed and Seed program designation; Co-chair of the Trenton Enterprise Initiative Coordinating Committee which helped focus federal and state urban aid to the city; and as Vice President for Trenton City Home, a housing development corporation.
Mr. Moya was also the architectural consultant for Washington Township’s (Robbinsville, Mercer County, NJ) innovative, award winning Town Center Plan; counseling the planning board on matters related to site and building design. In addition to which he was responsible for preparing and writing zoning criteria for the township’s large scale industrial development zone.
An invited architectural design juror at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rutgers University Department of Landscape Architecture, and urban planning workshop juror at the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University, he has also lectured, and written and published work on architecture and health care design.
