Fordham University was more than a series of campus projects. It was a relationship. Tasked by the university to bring unity and coherence to the Rose Hill Campus through an ambitous building program for new facilities and upkeep of the existing ones. Over twenty different projects marked that tenure, of which five were completed.
PLACEMAKING is a multi-faceted approach to the design of public spaces. At Fordham a language of materials was developed to define and unify the Rose Hill Campus. This language was based on the lasting legacy of stone masonry through a series of landscape and building projects.
FABER TERRACE transformed an existing loading yard into an integrated open space welcoming to students and university events. A design was concurrently developed to reclad the existing Faber Hall in stone and remodel its events venue. To date, only the terrace and new fenestration were completed together with the connection to next-door Loyola Hall.
MURPHY FIELD expanded the existing softball field with a new stadium facility for spectators, dugouts, public toilets and press box. Alterations also included a complete refurbishing of the softball field and new batting cages. In addition, the design added an icononic landmark facing the campus.
The UNIVERSITY CHURCH was renovated for the installation of two new organs and the expansion of the choir loft requiring extensive ornamental woodwork. The project from design to finish had to adhere to a strict 14 month timetable despite the many unforeseen conditions discovered during construction in the 1846 historical structure.
SAINT GENEVIEVE CHAPEL marked an important donation to the university. Tasked with providing and designing a suitable home in the Rose Hill Campus for the ornate chapel interiors, the rooms were disassembled, preserved and stored for safekeeping previous to demolition of its original building. The design proposed housing the reassembled room inside of a purpose built new structure next to the University Church. The chapel proposal features an exterior carillon and a walled garden on the site of an existing cemetery.
The NEW CAMPUS GATE is a design intended to brand the university at its main vehicular entrance across from the New York Botanical Gardens. As with many of our other projects, the design continues the use of Collegiate Gothic masonry architecture as the significant theme of the campus.
